Code Geass 01

Sunrise’s newest series, Code Geass – Hangyaku no Lelouch starts us off in the year 2010 of the Common Era, at which point in time the Holy Empire of Britania begins their invasion of Japan, the last remaining super power in the world. The small island nation was clearly outmatched by not only the sheer numbers of the Britanic forces, but also by Britania’s far superior technology. Britania deployed their first series of Knightmare Frames during their invasion of Japan, a new kind of humanoid powered armor (think Mobile Suits). The Knightmare Frames clearly outclassed Japan’s defenses, and it wasn’t long before the war was over. After Britania’s conquest of Japan, they stripped the country of it’s freedom, rights, and even it’s name – the formerly known country of Japan was renamed “Area 11″ of the Britania Empire. After witnessing these events, a young Lelouch swears to crush Brittania.

Lelouch

This seems like an interesting series. With the introduction of Lelouch’s newfound power and the various mecha, this seems alot like some sort of Death Note and Gundam crossover. Lelouch is certaintly no Kira Yamato however, as he seems to not have any problems with forcing those unfortunate enough to cross him to commit suicide via gunshot to the head. The Holy Empire of Brittania – I guess the Americans didn’t win the Revolutionary War, and the English decided to take over the world! Those dastardly Brits.

The OP and ED were a blast (FLOW is still as good as ever!), I really enjoyed the show – CLAMP’s character designs are as good as ever. Music was above average, the story is intriguing, and I’m sure many doujin artists will have excellent ideas about how to….utilize Lelouch’s “powers” ^______^
